About the Platform 9 3/4

Platform 9 3/4 is probably the most famous train platform in the world. However the platform is fictional, created by J. K. Rowling.

The platform was mentioned in the first movie, when Harry, the Weasel family and lots of other wizard kids had to travel to Hogwarts by train. The train could only be accessed from a platform that couldn’t be seen from the normal platform so the kids needed to run through the wall with their trolleys.

Platform 9 3/4 in Kings Cross

The platform 9 3/4 is supposed to be between the 9th and 10th platform, but due to high traffic the authorities decided to place the sign just in the main hall of King’s Cross.

After some time, Warwick Davis (who played professor Flitwick and Griphook in the movies) opened a Harry Potter store. They added a trolley, a wand and a scarf to the sign and now the platform 9 and three quarters looks just like the one from the movie.

They also have a photographer on site who will take a picture of you that you can buy in the shop. You can also have a friend snap a picture or two, or ask someone from the queue.

I wouldn’t consider asking someone totally random, as there are usually lots of pickpockets in the area.

My special tips about taking photos at Platform 9 3/4

Don't wait in line at Platform 9 3/4!

If you don't want to wait in line, buy a scarf and a wand and take a photo yourself. You can do it early, when the shop is closed, or late in the evening.

Wait less in queue at Platform 9 3/4!

Coming early can also save your waiting time. The shop opens in 9 am, so come here at least 20 minutes earlier to have a smaller queue. You will wait after the shop opens and borrow the scarf from your favourite faculty and the wand.

How to skip a line at Platform 9 3/4!

The Harry Potter shop offers a VIP pass to those who want to jump the queue. You'll pay 20£ but you're going as soon as you arrive in the station.

How can you get to the Platform 9 3/4?

Tube and Trains

You'll need to look for King's Cross or St Pancras International (St Pancras is only 2 minutes away from the King's Cross.

Bus

Reach the King's Cross by these buses: 476, 214, 73, 17, 390, 10, 63, 46, 30, 45, 59, 91, 205, 259.

Car

You can park your car in Judd Street or search other nearby car parks.

After you enter the King’s Cross, just go straight on and you’ll see the platform sign or the Harry Potter’s shop. Or the immense queue of fans.
